As I'm sure most of you know, we had a fun visitor last Thursday at Jackie's paper doll class. Catherine Moore, the creator of Character Construction stamps, and her sneaky friend and fellow artist Lana flew into town to surprise Jackie and the class. It was such a special treat for both the student's and Catherine. How often do we get to really see the joy that our hard work brings to others. It was a fun evening and a Paper Crown top 10.

Unfortunately my participation was short lived because I headed down to Waco on Friday am to watch Katie perform with her sorority and a fraternity in All University Sing. They did a fantastic job and being the proud mom I thought they were by far the best. Lucky for them the judges felt the same and I got an excited phone call Saturday night at about midnight. Placing first at Sing is a big deal at Baylor and the countless hours they put into it is exhausting. I think you can YouTube Baylor Sing Kappa act and see a little bit.

The fun is over and now it's back to work. Lots of new product arrived while I was gone. I will be checking in Prima, October Afternoon, Graphic 45 and Tim Holtz this week. There is a lot of stuff so please be patient- I guarantee it will be worth the wait. If you are wanting something in particular, it might be wise to call the store to see if I have gotten to it before you head over. Or better yet make it a daily trip to see what's new.

That is my phrase. I don't use it a lot but I do when the time comes to get my nose to the grindstone and get movin'. Or when I dive head first into the pit and need to shimmy my way out. I'll admit I once told a kindergartner on a field trip to " buck up " - the whining and complaining was driving us all crazy. I never lived that one down at school. That same little whining kindergartners told Katie on facebook recently that she remembered her nice mom. I guess I didn't scar her for life- Whew!

Anyway it's time to buck up at Paper Crown, we have lots of work and projects to tackle this week.

Thursday is the first of Jackie's classes using Catherine Moore's new Character Construction stamps, the Bee Keeper's Tea. This class is full but Jackie will be doing another class with these fun stamps on March 6th. If you are attending the class this Thursday please be on time, we have a full house. Also please bring detail scissors, adhesive and colored pencils or markers to color your doll.

The first shipment of Bee Keeper's Tea stamps flew out the door but we should have a complete new shipment by the end of the week!

Up Up and Away

One of our favorite Texas gals will be at the store on Saturday to teach this fun paper mache class. You will learn how to take this adorable frozen Charlotte to new heights. This will be a fun class and we can all benefit from learning a new technique. There are a few openings but don't delay.

The doorbell should be ringing a lot this week. New CHA shipments are expected from- Prima, Tim Holtz, Making Memories and Glitz. I'm not sure when the items will arrive but all should be out by the beginning of next week.

Lots of fun tags, flashcards and journaling calendars from a company new to me, Elle's Studio. These fun tags make journaling and recording life's important moments a snap- and they are so cute!

Consistently one of my favorites and they are so nice to deal with is My Mind's Eye. We have their two new collections, Ms. Caroline and Follow your Heart. Both have the most unique embellishments and beautiful paper.

Because of all the new merchandise arriving in the next few weeks, our sale room will be packed up tomorrow. If you haven't been by now is the time- all Christmas and Valentine's paper and embellishments are 75% off, all other embellishments are 40% off and paper is a dime! It will be packed up on Wednesday so no dilly dallying.

Happy Heart Day!

My kid's always called it heart day instead of Valentine's- kinda sweet. Usually on Valentine's Day I wear a clay heart one of them made in pre-school at Little Red Schoolhouse. When I went to get it today I remembered the clay on the last one just crumbled last year. Maybe I can get my 19, 17 and 13 yr olds to make their mama a new one. I can tempted them with candy : )

Cupid Need a Little Help?

At times we all need a little help, even cupid. If you can't find that perfect card why not create your own card. It is a breeze with the new Doodlebug line. There are cards and envelopes in all shapes and sizes and a fun assortment of embellishments and stickers which make creating that masterpiece a snap. What's even better, the cost is right. This are great for school age kids who want to make a special Valentine for a favorite teacher, grandparent, parent or special friend.

A special thank you to everyone who helped us wish Ms. Cheri well on her upcoming marriage this Saturday. We had a great time and as you would suspect, Cheri had us all laughing. Her home will be filled with laughter and song I am sure.

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

As many of you know, Paper Crown's number one employee- she has also been here longer than ANYONE, most knowledgeable re: scrapbooking, speediest on the register and has an amazing voice- will soon be trading her "Miss" for a "Mrs."

Come join us this Saturday, February 11th from 4:30-6 as we have a come and go make and take shower for Cheri. You can wish her well on her upcoming marriage, enjoy some tasty treats and do a little crafting. Since Cheri is the only one here who consistently scrapbooks, we will each be doing a make and take to give Cheri for her album.

We hope you can join Cheri's sister, Stephanie, and I in wishing Cheri a life "happily ever after!"

Since we loved the Basic Grey " Hello Luscious" line as paper, I decided the fabric line had to be as equally "luscious" and I must say it is! We have all been incorporating some fabric into some of our projects so here is a chance to work with an old favorite. We have both the jelly rolls and the square packs.

Kid's Camp

Last Sunday was Kid's Camp and as you can see, we had a little Valentine's project. We used some crayons to color our hearts and then water colored over the entire picture. Once that was dry, we then did some creative rubber cement squiggles, let those dry and went over the enire picture again with another water color coat. Depending on the watercolor selected, some of the hearts lost their "pop" so several went over their hearts with pastels.

In addition to crafting we did a little snacking, chatting and always somehow always, a little dancing.

Paper Crown hosts Kid's Camp typically once a month, sometimes twice depending on the project, on Sunday afternoons from 2-5. Cost varies depending on the project and time constraints but it is typically $75. Upcoming Kid's Camp dates are:

A Busy February

February is lining up to be a quite hectic month. We are only 6 days into the month and have already had a full house for one class and a gaggle of giggling kiddos for Kid's Camp. In addition to all the scheduled events and classes, February is one of our big months for new products. CHA was just last week and all the spring goodies will be arriving soon. In fact the first spring shipment, Webster's Pages Sunday Picnic, arrived on Friday. I anticipate getting some shipments every week for at least the next month. It's kinda like Christmas all over again.

It's official, Webster's Pages, is the first of the new CHA collections to arrive at Paper Crown. Websters has several lines just released but the first is Sunday Picnic- bright cheerful, reminds me of our weather lately- except for today!

Cupid's Arrow Hit

As you can see, Cupid's arrow hit Paper Crown this weekend. Ann-Denise and her cute family came up from Ft. Worth this weekend so she could teach her Valentine's cone class. I'm always amazed at the amount of goodies this girl brings and how unique each project turns out.

We had a very discriminating shopper in the store today. Actually it was a male and he stayed almost the entire day. He was a tad bit undressed, footy pjs with moose slippers, but definitely comfy. All morning he simply wanted my full attention, he asked for a snack- or three or four, spent all afternoon cruising the store, and then just crashed in a heap in the corner.

My special shopper today was Baby Bubbie. We didn't get a whole lot done but we got in some quality snuggle and play time. He's a cutie pie and it's fun to have the little guy at the store. He even signed for more applesauce- he is one of the MOST brilliant babies in town!

Bubbie coming up with a use for Cavallini that Jackie had not thought of- it makes a great wand and then you can throw it on the floor. This is how smart this little guy is, he aways picked up the same roll. Very conscientious of Auntie Cindy's inventory.

However in the midst of all the fun with my little friend, we got a really- I mean really Big surprise at the store. You are going to love it but I'm sworn to secrecy. It is a biggie and is just a few weeks away. In the middle of all my baby babble I wasn't sure it was really true but it is, and it is BIG! I'm not telling anyone- not even Jackie- it's that BIG!

So it was a pretty good day, a little play time, a big surprise and Anthropologie opens this weekend- I'm a happy camper!

P.S. A very special thanks to the beautiful Bullard girls who gave me a small break this afternoon and managed to get Bubbie tired enough to finally take a nap! You girls Rock!

A Boy's Life

Em does not look thrilled does he? I have been taking the kids to Waco and more specifically, the "bear pit" at Baylor since they were babies. They used to love it now... not so much. I took the boy's and my favorite adopted boy down to Baylor for a boy's weekend- two basketball games, cheeseburgers and shakes and lots of rough housing. Why must they always take something from the other which results in a wrestling match? It was fun- just wish one of the games had had a different outcome.

After my testastrone filled weekend it seemed appropriate that " A Boy's Life" from Echo Park arrived while I was gone. We are always looking for good boy paper and this one hits the spot.

For those of you wanting to see what you are creating on the 23rd, here they are. These two chicks are from Catherine Moore's new collection, Bee Keeper's Tea. This little lovely is so precious you can stuff with your favorite chocolates, or sweet little cookies. I guarantee whomever you give this St. Valentine cone too they will be so delighted. It measures at approx. 8 inches and is decorated with red velvet and embellished sundries of sorts. All supplies included as well a pattern for future use.

A Wonderful Surprise From A Friend to the North- Far North

What a wonderful surprise we have in store for you girls today. This has been in the works for a week or two and I am so very pleased to announce that Colette Copeland will be at Paper Crown in May to teach four of her unique and charming classes.

Many of you who have attended Silver Bella know Colette from her class in Omaha but now the rest of us will get the pleasure.

Colette is a full-time mixed media artist, writer, teacher, and a frequent contributor to the Stampington & Company group of magazines and designer of a rubber stamp line called Carved By Hand for Stampington. She has taught at Silver Bella (2010) and locally in Toronto, where she lives. She has lived and traveled in the U.S., but this is her first visit to Oklahoma, and she is really looking forward to it.

Tuesday's Surprise-it'll have you "stamping" at the bit

OK, OK, I know the title was WAY corny but 5 posts in 5 days, that's a lot for this girl. Be warned, I think they might get even worse.

Today's surprise made my Monday! Catherine Moore of Character Construction, released her 2012 stamp line yesterday, Bee Keeper's Tea. Every year I think she has out done herself but I really think this line is wonderful. Lots of paper doll options along with an adorable curio cabinet and the cutest little swarm of bees. This line will give us lots of options from spring through summer.

Even better, a complete line of these stamps plus a shipment of assorted "legs" are on there way to OKC and I bet will be here by the end of the week! You are going to love these I promise.

True to form, each time I place an order with Catherine I ask, however now it's kinda gotten to that whiny please, please, PLEASE my kids do, if she would come to OKC and teach a class. Much to my delight she said she was actually thinking about it- yippee skippy girls this might be our lucky year. Keep your fingers crossed!

So until we get to meet Ms. Moore in person, we will have to settle for her wonderful creations! Feel free to call to see if they are in, I'm betting on Friday.

A New Surprise Each Day This Week!

We have been cooking up all kinds of surprises for this year and especially the upcoming months. I realized yesterday that we have so many treats in store that I could highlight one each weekday this week. SO for our first surprise of the week....

In honor of Valentine's Day, a girl's favorite holiday, we will be hosting a Valentine's paper doll swap. You can make a Valentine's paper doll of your own design or we will have the stamped heads from a Character Construction (clue for upcoming surprise) doll you can pick up at the store and decorate. All we ask is you decorate your doll for February 14th.

To make this a little more exciting, we will give a $50.00 Paper Crown gift certificate to our most festive paper doll. What a sweet Valentine's treat!

I know we have many blog followers from out of town so we thought this might be a way to include you in the fun. The doll can be easily put in an envelope and mailed to the store. We would love to see the creativity from ALL of our followers and not just those in town. If one of our out of town followers wins, you can use your gift certificate to shop from the blog until the website store is open (hint #2).

Stamped doll forms can be picked up at the store today and we will need your completed doll at the store by Friday, February 10th so that any dolls that need to mailed can be at the post office first thing Monday morning the 13th.

I think is will be a fun way to get our creativity flowing and you just have to do one doll- it's a piece of cake!

We don't have a sample because the new Character Construction stamps won't ship until next week but the previews are amazing. It's a great year for paper dolls- lots of fun options.

More classes to come but we wanted to get the first round out.

For all classes please bring your basic kit which includes: small detail and large scissors, glue stick, favorite wet adhesive, colored pencils (especially for paper dolls), ruler, pencil and glue gun.

Although it seems unnecessary on such a beautiful day, our weather cancellation policy is if the OKCPS are closed for the day we will be also. If a storm is coming in late afternoon or early evening, we will decide on class by 3. Please leave a current phone number when you register for class in case we need to cancel due to weather.

Call the store at 848-2389 to register for class. Credit card number is required at the time of registration. Any class cancellations within 48 hours of the class will be charged and a kit can be picked up.

I know it won't have near the response that Oprah's does- sorry girls, I can't give away cars, or these items for that matter but thought I would highlight a few of my favorite thing in the store. For you blog readers outside OKC, these items can be ordered and sent in the mail, unfortunately, probably not by Christmas but really I bet there isn't a lot of creating going on right now because of all the shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning, addressing.

These bright and cheerful kitchen linens make drying the dishes, cooking dinner, and setting the table Fun. These are great presents and our price is a ton better than the sale price at a Classen Curve store. We have aprons- 2 styles, tablecloths- 2 sizes, napkins & tea towels.

I love this jewelry line by Summer Ellis. She is a young designer from Waco and makes the most beautifully delicate necklaces and earrings. These are a huge hit with college and us more mature girls. These are perfect to add a little bling to your Christmas stocking!

This has become my new BFF and I just got an extra one to sell in the store. This is Tim Holtz Vagabond electric die cutting machine. It can be used with all the Tim Holtz dies and many of the Sizzix dies. If you have to make 400 of these....

You can do it in a snap with the Vagabond! This is the one tool I promise you WILL use and be thankful you made the jump. in addition, it's so darn cute and comes with travel stickers to put on the sides.

Who doesn't love this stuff. It is our all time favorite. It ties up beautifully, can be made to look vintage in a snap, comes in 100s of colors and is really cheap- .39 a yard. So why use that stiff ugly ribbon from the discount store- this is much prettier, cheaper and after the presents have been unwrapped, you can use it on your favorite project.

This is the perfect treat for next week. All the hustle and bustle is over so get a cup of your favorite beverage, a comfy chair or bed and enjoy an afternoon looking through the new Somerset magazines- we just got in Somerset Life, Create With Me, Somerset Studio and Art Journaling. Doesn't it sound like heaven.

This is the store favorite! We just got in another shipment of 1000 of these beauties. Rarely are any two alike but they are all beautiful. These are loved by girls from 6- 96. they are pretty, light weight and so affordable. I'm sure Paper Crown has the best prices in town so don't delay- she will be happy!

I just received some more gifty items this am- unfortunately there was a delay in getting them here but the driver told me they were here before Christmas- barely. It's hard to believe that this Saturday, December 3 rd is the last Paper Crown class of 2011. This year has flown by but it definitely has been creative. We have had 48 classes this year. That is a lot of creative fun. I would venture a guess that our good friend Beth has attended at least 75%~we love you Beth!

The fun is not quite over for the year. There are still a few spots left in Donna's vintage garland class this Saturday. Class is from 1-5 and I promise you will love it! This is the second time Paper Crown has offered this class- a store favorite! You will leave with a beautiful garland that will make your mantle, tree or banister sparkle. You won't want to miss out. Advice From a Savy Business Woman

A few weeks ago I had a surprise visitor at the store. It was Mary Carol Garrity, owner of my favorite store in the whole world, Nell Hill's, in Atchison and KC, KS. I have blogged about her store before and it is truly amazing. Words can not describe how beautifully creative this store is. Everyone who loves Paper Crown Should put it on their list- you will be amazed! Anyway Mary Carol was in town for a speaking engagement at the Theta Flaming Festival and stopped by to check out the store she helped to inspire.

She was graciously complimentary and said she would never change the feel of Paper Crown but would like to make a small suggestion- there is hardly anything in the store over $10.00 and what about those that love the store's feel but just don't have the time? She suggested I carry some items that I already have in the store and am using for displays. That way I am not changing the store's integrity, just making it a little more accessible to a wider customer base. So the mess in the back is a result of her advice.

20 boxes arrived on Monday full gift items including frames, Santos, pedestals and the prettiest dish towels, tablecloths and aprons. Now you can Christmas shop for both your artsy and non-artsy friends. As I get the boxes unpacked I will show you some of the goodies but for now....

In addition we also received a large shipment from October Afternoon ( Farmhouse and Holiday Style) , Prima (Printery, Londonberry & Romantique) and TADA, fun Christmas line.

It's like Christmas morning around here again!

A huge and oh so glittery thank you to all of you who attended Glitter Market and made it our most successful market yet. As you can see from the picture, we had quite a crowd gathered even before the doors opened. I'm not sure if Nancy & Glenda or Brenda & donna were the official first ones in line but I know it was close. Actually both were waiting when I arrived Sat. morning!

Here are a few pictures of the calm before the storm- and what a glorious storm it was...

It was a little crazy for a bit but I think everyone was happy with the added space. Lots and lots of treats were purchased and I believe we had a ton of happy shoppers and some very happy but a little weary vendors. A huge thank you to all our shoppers from near and far. Your kind words- and pocketbooks- have allowed our artists and Glitter Market to flourish. We are just so glad you "get" us and what we do!

A very special thank you to all the vendors who worked so very hard to come up with such unique and beautiful items, hauled them all up to the market, set up the most wonderful displays, worked a full day and then helped clean up. Each and every one of you is an angel and we wouldn't have Glitter Market without YOU!

Thank you also to all the friends and family who lent a hand, watched the baby, manned a booth(that rivaled Target on Black Friday), hauled tables and boxes and mopped the floor. Your help was definitely appreciated and thanks for understanding -or at least trying- our need to create. It may not be practical but it is Beautiful and makes our hearts sing.

Thank you also to our new vendors who had their maiden market is fall. We are so glad you decided to join us and are looking forward to you joining us for the next Glitter Market. Thanks also to our favorite Texans- Heather, Ann-Denise and Charlotte. I'm so very pleased and honored that you make the long drive; we are truly lucky to have discovered you!

I would mark Glitter Market 2011 as a huge hit so until the next one... possibly in the spring of 2012 (I have a feeling I might be a little busy) but definitely the Saturday before Thanksgiving 2012.

It's almost here!!! Move in day is tomorrow and today was cleaning day. Let me say there is going to be plenty of room in the new location. It is very spacious and will be the perfect venue for Glitter Market. That being said, there is only so much cleaning one chickie can do in a night so if it isn't spotless, remember that you do have lots of elbow room :)

One of today's featured artists is Nicole Kohmescher. I have known Nicole for a year or so and she is the sweetest. Nicole has taught a variety of classes at Paper Crown and they have all been a hit. We are ready for cute little Wicky, not sure how they spell it, to start kindergarten so Nicole will have more time for classes. My word for Nicole is serene, believe me I wasn't that way when the boys were toddlers- she's never ruffled! I know you will love Nicole's treats and if they are anything like her classes, it will be a bang for your buck!

Another of today's artists is Leslie Pace. She signed up for Glitter Market on Monday or Tuesday. I'm impressed at her initiative and the fact she can pull it all together so quickly. Gotta love a girl that can fly by the seat of her pants. Leslie repurposes vintage items into works of art. My word for Leslie is impressive; I know I couldn't have pulled it together that quickly.

Oops! Yesterday I missed this picture of all the wonderful crepe paper goodies Ann-Denise will be bringing. It just makes you smile!

Just 3 short little days girls- it will be here in no time!

Day 3 featured artists are the dynamic Texas cowgirls- Ann- Denise and Heather. Actually I don't think either are originally from Texas but I'm just so very pleased and honored that they both make that 6 hour drive to teach at Paper Crown.

Since they both have a hike to get to the store, both will be teaching this weekend at Paper Crown. Killin' two birds with one stone. What an awesome deal for you- you can shop til you drop and then in the afternoon, drop into a class or two and create. Shopping and crafting all in one day!

You've wanted to try it so now is your chance! This Friday, Nov. 18th from 11-2, Heather will be teaching a beginning soldering class. You will learn everything you need to get you started on a new hobby and make a couple of charms while learning. Class is limited to 6 and there are only a couple of spots left. Class cost is $65 and includes all of your supplies.

For those of you that have completed Heather's beginning class, she will be offering an advanced Crown class on Friday, Nov. 18th from 3-6. We can't wait to see this pretty; we have been dreaming about it for months and only a couple of spots are still available. Class members must have completed the beginning class and have their own equipment.

Heather will conclude her weekend of vending and teaching with her Shine Banner on Saturday, Nov. 19th from 3-6. This is also an advanced class so students will need to have finished beginning soldering and have their own equipment.
In addition to all her teaching, Heather is bringing some surprises for Glitter Market. Miss Heather has been a very busy girl.

Our second featured artist is Ann-Denise. This cowgirl has also been busy- teaching, vending and openning a new craft haven, P'Arty Place, in Roanoke, Tx. Crafty girls sure don't sit around eating bon-bons. Ann- Denise will have a table at Glitter Market with her ruffled crepe paper and other goodies. All those fun extras that make your project sparkle!

Ann-Denise will be teaching the Cotton Spun Glitter Fairy on Saturday, November 19th from noon-2. We strategetically planned her class so you can be first in line to shop at Glitter Market and then head over to Paper Crown for this fun holiday class. Cost is $55.00 and includes all of your supplies.

When it rains it pours- literally! I walked into the store this morning to water on the floor and bulging from the tiles in the ceiling. Not a good thing for a paper store. Apparently the center is getting a new roof and the section over a portion of the store was not down last night- during the rain. The insulation acted like a giant sponge and then - drip drip drip SPLASH!

Not too much was ruined and I had two burly macho men assigned to clean up. They were amazed at the store, not in the same way you ladies are, and couldn't believe people actually bought that much paper and glitter. They were very helpful and did a great job cleaning up. I did smile as they left for lunch with rest of the guys- covered in pink and silver glitter. :)

One of our day 4 artists is Miss Jackie. This is the reason people line up to get in at 8:30 in the morning. Her work is beyond description. You all know how very talented she is and what an incredible collection of treats she will be bringing. There are so many words I would use for Jackie but my personal favorite is angel. She has been and continues to be my very own personal angel. Come be amazed - but while your jaw is dropping please please remember to use your manners while swarming her table- I don't want to come down and have to use my mom voice : )

Our second day 4 artist is Robin Thomas. Robin is another of our multi-talented artists. In addition to the gorgeous scarves and wraps Robin is known for, she also makes these adorable dolls and Miss Annie is a wonderful tree topper. Robin is also bringing her jewelry and journals and who knows what else. I do know it will all be wonderful and I'm so glad Robin is joining us. My word for Robin is wit. I know it isn't a typical crafty word but anytime I am in the art world with Robin, her intelligent funny wit is what sticks with me. She makes me smile and laugh and I can't wait!

It's getting exciting isn't it- I got the key to Jamie's today and can't wait to go down and plan out the space!

A large shipment of Character Construction stamps arrived today. We finally have faces, legs, arms,and clothes- we were in BAD shape for a while! I also got in an assortment of Catherine's Christmas stamps so don't be sorry. I just wish Catherine would have delivered the stamps herself- I'm working on it though!

Glitter Market Countdown ...7, 6, 5

It is almost here and I can not wait! This Saturday, November 19th from 10-5 is our 3rd annual Paper Crown Holiday Glitter Market. Each year it has grown and word of our little art fair has spread. It is very exciting and such a great opportunity for our talented artists and wonderful customers. This years Holiday Glitter Market will be held four doors down from Paper Crown at the former Jamie's storefront. It is a very large open location that will allow for more movement and hopefully alleviate some of the crowding at the tables. You won't want to miss this unique and wonderful shopping opportunity. Just think you can get some of that Christmas shopping done before Black Friday.

This weekend got away from me with the birthday parties, classes and garage sale so pretend with me...

Our first featured Glitter Market artist is Charlotte Perez. I met Charlotte is summer at the Gilded Life retreat and the one word I would use to describe Charlotte is exuberant! She has the most fun spirited personality that matches her bold and beautiful jewelry. I wasn't able to get a piece of jewelry this summer but I guarantee I will on Saturday. Charlotte lives in Dallas and I have told her how much we love those girls from across the Red River. Ladies we are in for a amazing treat!

I thought it would be appropriate to feature Donna Layton as our day 6 artist since she was up at the store most of the day yesterday teaching her advent calendar class. This is Donna's third year at Glitter Market so most of you know about Donna's vintage treasures. She has the most extensive and amazing stash of vintage goodies and the beautiful pieces of art she creates with her stash is amazing. The word I would use to describe Donna is beautifully resourceful. I'm aways amazed at what clever things she has come up with. My dad was was very resourceful and clever but rarely was it beautiful- Donna is that rare combo of both. These ornaments are gorgeous and I know they will go quickly.

day 5 and counting....

Today's featured artist is Medeah Kitsmiller. I have known Medeah for about a year and I am continually amazed with the volume and variety of art this girl can put out- and she has a two- or maybe 3 - sorry Miss Chloe, year old. She must not sleep! Medeah has wowed us this past year with her mixed media canvases but I hear her Glitter Market inventory includes so much more! My word for Medeah is energizer bunny- wish she would let me borrow her battery for a week!

Well now that we are on track I hope you are getting excited about Glitter Market. I know it will be bigger and definitely even more sparkley than last year. So until tomorrow...

Miss cute young lady is Grace. She is also known as Benton, Charlie, Life and baby Joe's sister but today she is my right hand girl. It is career shadowing day at school and Grace came to check out Paper Crown. She has input inventory, cut out stars, rang up customers and we are now off to mixing glitter. Last year she shadowed a delivery nurse- kinda a tough act to follow but not near as squeamish.

I think the busy, crazy, I just wanna get through this season has officially begun. It's gonna be hectic but fun- and glittery!

Miss Donna will kick it off this weekend with her beautiful advent calendar class. It's a full house but there are 2 coveted spots still available. Donna's class will be this Sunday from 1-5 pm, come create while your hubby is watching football. Cost is $45.00 and includes all supplies. Fun with Miss Heather

Fun times ahead girls! It seemed such a long time away when we scheduled Heather's classes but time flies and one of our favorite girls south of the Red River will be here next week- Yippee!

Heather will be teaching two classes on Saturday, October 29th. A basic soldering class for those of you that want to get started and an advanced class for those of you who have completed her basic class. You will be able to take both, however, you will need to order your own equipment for the banner class. The store has the website so you can order and have it by next Saturday.

Basic Soldering

I love it when I can make people happy and I know I just made quite a few people’s day! This class will be a basic introductory class where you’ll learn the very basics of soldering (tools, supplies, and basic jewelry charm soldering) and get to try your hand at creating at least two pendant style charms. All supplies for this class are provided – including art for your charms. Class size is limited to 6 so don't hesitate- you will be sorry!

Do you ever have those moments when your family is driving you bonkers? When your "friends" feel like your biggest foe? When you're at the park, and someone is trying to small talk your child? It's in those very moments that I need a reminder to shine. Shine through the adversity and challenges and meet them head on! So with that in mind, I designed and created this sweet banner to display and remind me to meet those challenges head on.

In this quick paced class you'll create a create a large 5 lettered soldered bunting banner, using a 5 letter word that is special to you. The glass we'll be using has been custom hand cut and finished especially for this class. Additional glass will be available for purchase if you would like to create a longer word. This class is geared towards participants who have previous soldering experience and know how to wrap, solder, and attach jump rings.

In addition to a soldering station (tile, iron, stand, solder, flux & brush, clothespins/clamps, sponge, burnisher, hemostat & glass cleaner), students will need to bring the following supplies with them: hand towel, paper cutter, scissors, pencil, glitter glue, flat nosed jewelry pliers. Feel free to bring any small jewelry bits and baubles also to customize your banner! Please come prepared with what word you would like to use, as we'll be cutting them during class.

Heather will also be here for Glitter Market on November 19th and has graciously agreed to teach another beginner soldering class on Friday, Nov. 18th from 1-3pm and an advanced soldering crown class also on the 18th from 3-6 pm. What a trooper!

my wish

Lately I've been asked several times what I wish for. Funny it used to be so easy. When I was little it was a new Barbie, then a polo, an add a bead necklace, or the past few years, probably something for the house. Never had much problem coming up with something, actually it was probably the opposite- wanting way too much. This year has been different. Maybe it's because this is my first birthday without a parent or grandparent. It could also be that is is my 47th b-day; the age my mom was first diagnosised with breast cancer. Maybe I'm just finally growing up. All that stuff that I used to want is just that- stuff- and at times it gives me a bigger headache than joy. A quick side note, I haven't totally gone granola, believe me I still go crazy when I walk in Anthrolopogie (Austin refers to it as my crack house) and the Wood Garden can make me lust but I just don't Need it like I used to, or a least thought I did. Whatever the case, my wish has been forefront on my mind lately.

As many of you know, a few weeks ago we were lucky enough to have KC Willis come teach for a few days at the store. She is a wonderful mixed media artist who gave us 3 days of pure pleasure. In addition to being a talented artist, KC is just such an interesting and passionate person. In her classes she shared with us about her second love, the people of Pine Ridge reservation in SD.

On KC's last night in OKC we went to dinner and she shared with me how she found Pine Ridge. It was a series of events, or actually in her case, books, that lead her from one author and their experience to another. If you have ever had a series of events in your life that looking back you have no other explanation for how they came together other than God's providence, you understand. KC had such an interest in one author's experience at Pine Ridge that she began to look into it herself. Like many passions, it started small and has grown to a consuming fire.

I was surprised that KC had a passion for a group of people and children that she had never actually met. That night after dinner I asked her if she would like to put a face with her cause. That night KC meet J and L. As some of you know, my closest friends have been caring for two foster kiddos for about a year. Both boys are Native American and from the same tribe as those at Pine Ridge. I have helped with the boys some over the past year and to say I have become attached is an understatement. So you see, KC's stories of the reservation struck a cord that was very close to my heart- the spark was flickering.

Their meeting was a grand finale to a series of "God things." As we pulled up to the house, L dressed for bed was in the car getting his backpack. I told him I had a friend I wanted him to meet and instead of shly walking over, he ran to KC's knees and gave her a bear hug that can only be done by 5 yr old boys. He then gave her a big grin and a happy "hi." It was dark but I'm pretty sure KC was crying and I know I was. KC now had a face to put with her mission at least until her arrival today at the reservation.

Today KC is making her first trip to the reservation. She has her car loaded up with clothes, supplies and the necessities of life to try and be of some help. KC described life on the reservation as very, very hard and very isolated. We always send our children out of the country on mission trips when in fact, some of the conditions in our own country, just a day's drive away, are worse than those of a third world country.

I have decided to start a coat drive for the people of Pine Ridge. For every gently used coat, glove,mitten, or hat donated, I will enter your name in a drawing for a $100 Paper Crown gift certificate. We will gather donations until November when KC is scheduled to make a second visit to the resrvation. This is a cause that is very dear to my heart and I hope you will join me.

I guess one of my wishes is that we can somehow make a difference in these kids lives and it takes an entire day's worth of profits to pay for the shipping of all the coats we gather. I noticed this am that ABC news is doing a special on Friday evening entitled "Children of the Plains" and it appears to be about life in a reservation. I think it's another "God thing."

This is J. He is the Thanksgiving baby and I love this little guy like he was my own. My second wish is that he will be able to be adopted by my friends. Because of J's background, a normal adoption is not possible. The decision will be made soon and it is our hope that the tribe will find favor with J's current situation and Bubbie will be able to remain in OKC and be adopted by a very special family that has already shown him so much selfless and unconditional love.

Those are my two wishes so say a little prayer please and get to cleaning those closets : )

Overwhelmed

I think my word for the day is overwhelmed. At least that's how I'm feeling at the moment. So many boxes to open and I really don't want to check any of it in. Feel like just digging in, throwing stuff around and going on to the next. Basically I'm acting like a 3 yr old at Christmas.

Who would have thought so much could come in two days. What I have unpacked...

I love these 3 new Crate Paper lines- Farmhouse, Random and Peppermint. You will want all three I'm pretty sure.

A new shipment came late Friday; I think it's one of the prettiest so far. Gotta love these- no tagging just throw them in the jar and watch them fly. Katie sold over 100 yesterday but never fear, 900 are still let!

This post is just a hodge podge of items. I've tried this afternoon to think of a clever way to intertwine them but no such luck. So on to the next item-

Holiday classes are in the works but just not quite ready to be announced. If you could be patient for just a few more days I promise you won't be disappointed. In the meantime time for those of you wanting to get a head start on the holidays, the Christmas paper is out and it is wonderful.

Most of you know the routine. Come by the store and pick up your 10 cards. Decorate them however you choose- either all the same, each different, it is totally up to you, we just ask that they are spooky- Halloween themed. Return your completed cards to Paper Crown by Wed., Oct 19th and pick up 10 new cards on Sat., Oct. 22nd. It's better than trick or treating- no weight gain and it's free!

Weekend Fun

What an absolutely fabulously fun few days we have had at the store! Three fun classes with KC and everyone, and I mean everyone, including me took home a completed project. Monday the girls made a collage journal which was absolutely beautiful. They were all so very different but each an hierloom.

Robin made a beautiful journal of well known Depression era photos. It was hauntingly beautiful and you just know those women are so very pleased at how Robin has honored their lives.

Nicole and several others used family photos in their journals. I'm sure there will be a squabble over who gets "coffee table rights" to this piece of art!

Sissy made a journal honoring "Great Gals I've Known" or something very close, I may have the wording off a bit but you get the idea. What a fabulous tribute to friendship. Sissy also served as KC's hostess this weekend and I so appreciate that. KC got a whiff of Em's football cleats last night and I'm sure she is grateful she didn't have to bunk across the hall from my lovable but smelly- at times- boys!

Our new friend Jacie who has been corresponding with KC for some time. It was fun to see them when they actually met for the first time.

Rise & Shine Cowgirls

What a fabulous time we are having with KC Willis! KC is an amazing artist, inspirational speaker and just such a joy to have at the store. She is inspiring our local artists to try out the new and create from the heart with their own story.

KC's class on Saturday was a full house and all 10 artists left with amazing collages. Unfortunately the store was busy- actually that's a good thing, however, I wasn't able to spend much time in the back and didn't get a single photo. : 0 Thankfully Jackie got some great pics so head over to goodgriefgirdie.typepad for a real treat.

Today KC is teaching a book class and Tuesday will be a repeat of Saturday's Collage Camp. There are two spots open so if you have been thinking about it I strongly encourage you to" bite the bullet" so to speak, you won't regret it!

Additional class opportunities this week include Nicole's Potions & Spells Chest Thursday evening, September 29th from 5:30-8:30. Cost is $55.00 and it is such a steal for all the embellishments in this project. You won't want to miss this spooky class!

Saturday will be a blast with Ann-Denise's WitchiePoo paper clay rattle. If you haven't been able to take one of Ann-Denise's paper clay classes you are missing out on such a fun day. In class you will mold your witch and then spend the day creating and embellishing your witch from Ann-Denise's famous trunk of goodies. All materials are included. Eye Candy

Presentation is everything, it sets the mood and can transport you to another place. I remember the first time I walked into a store and just went WOW! Nell Hill's , in Atchison, KS, I just wanted to stay forever looking at all the wonderful treasures. I remember thinking if I ever had a store I would want it to be just like that. It has been an inspiration to me and something I continually strive towards.

Yaks version of Gertie

Well thanks to Ms. Jackie, I have another favorite- Tale of the Yak in Berkley, CA. It is a magical crazy quilt of the most wonderful treasures- luxurious ribbon, delicate jewelry, beautiful papers, and fanciful paper flowers, lanterns and garlands. The store itself was just beautiful- it even had a balcony.

There was actually a bird in this cage- what a lucky duck!

While Austin was in a very grown up conversation with the charming clerk about a film documentary about someone who had been unjustly imprisoned (or at least I think that's what they were discussing- it was Berkley you know) I was walking around this small quaint store drooling.

There is a lady at the store that makes the most amazing treats from crepe paper. She calls them surprise balls and they are kinda like the little pinatas full of treats. The balls she had on display were swans and pomegranates. When the box arrives with my goodies I will share a picture with you. I honestly don't know how anyone could open it to see what's inside; the outside is a treat enough for me.

So if you ever get to San Francisco I would recommend the quick drive north to Berkley. In addition Castle in the Air is a fun store full of crafting possibilities. Unfortunately we pulled up 5 mins before they closed so I know I missed a lot.

Now for our piece of heaven- it's not too late to sign up for Medeah's mixed media class tonight or Donna's Copic marker class on Saturday. Simply call the store to register.

After going to these gems I 'm feeling the need to step it up a bit at Paper Crown, let's see what I can come up with- maybe we need a bird : )

Adult Swim

At some point this summer, Austin and I decided it was definitely time for an adult swim. All through junior high, high school and college I worked at a neighborhood pool and I learned to love adult swim (at that time I wasn't even close to being an adult but that what we called it nevertheless.) It was 15 mins on the hour where only " big people" could get in the pool- no Marco Polo, no throwing in the air, no just hanging on; it was 15 minutes of relaxing to get ready for what the next hour might bring.

Last week was our adult swim and boy was it nice. I really do love the store and to say Austin loves the law is a gross understatement but we both were worn slick. So we got on a plane and headed to CA- kinda like the Klampetts.

First stop San Francisco. First you must notice two things about this picture- 1. I have on a sweater and 2. there is a fire going. San Francisco is wonderful for lots of reasons- great food, trolley cars, diverse, you get a workout just walking around -and up and down, architecture is beautiful, there's an Anthropologie but most of all, it's COOL! It was down right nippy and I loved it!

We stayed at the Hotel Monaco in downtown. San Francisco is so unlike OKC. Here we want to open a new hotel so we just buy a piece of land, hire a contractor and in a few months you have a beautiful new hotel. In San Francisco there is no land, none it was taken a long time ago so you just take the little area you have and make it amazing. It's kinda like the store when we get in lots of goodies. It's just jam packed and you have things tucked in the smallest places- everywhere you look is some treasure.

Our room was eclectic and fun- bright colors, fum canopy, huge window seat, record player, and decorated in Alice and Wonderland and Jefferson Airplane. Kinda an odd mix but I think they even had a song about Alice so I guess it worked. While Austin was getting the world's largest bag (more about that later) I decided to take a closer look at this decorating, especially the bunny painted on the wall-

Faintly to the left of Bugs you can see a signature- Gary S----, or maybe it's Grace Smell. Oh you ding dong it's Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane apparently she can sing and paint. Grace had painted all the pictures in the room. Now all the room decor made perfect sense and we are in San Francisco and apparently our hotel had quite the colorful past.

Check out the guy on the mushroom, I don't think this illustration ever made it into a kid's book. So began our adventure in California.

Slowly but Surely

It has been a slow process this week but the store is getting back to normal. I just hate it when new customers come to the store when I'm in the middle of switching everything out; it just doesn't look it's best.

I almost have all the new merchandise out front and on display- at least through this am. There is one Glitz order floating out there somewhere between UT and OK. My goal is to get all the new merchandise out before the UPS guy arrives with new boxes. The race is on, can I bet UPS!

Paper Crown will be closing tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 2 at noon. The boys and I are headed down to wacky Waco to cheers on the Bears and see Katie. Cheri will be at the store at 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 3 for all your last minute Labor Day crafting needs- a labor day project, that would definitely stretch your creative thinking!

Yesterday I got a reprieve from unpacking and entering new merchandise so I was able to work on a few displays. That really is my favorite job as a store proprietor. What made it even more exciting was new goodies and new display pieces. Sunday I went to my friend Kim's antique store, Verdigris at 10th and Classen , and loaded up. I got a fun green sideboard, blue slated folding table and a fun patina green bulb holder. Just a little spark to liven things up.

New Lost & Found 2 has a special place on the new green sideboard.

I love the new Indie Bloom from Basic Grey. It found a new home in the front by Ms. Gertie.

They both are so welcoming!

Whoa Nellie

I never thought I would say this but I really don't want the UPS or FedX guy to ring my bell. No more period- or at least for a while. I know hard to believe. It's kinda like saying I don't want any more Christmas but that is how I feel. I have boxes in the back I haven't even opened and just don't feel like it - at least now.

Every flat surface in the back room/ classroom is covered with new merchandise. I mean every possible available surface and there is even some in the boxes on the floor. Also about 7 boxes in the back storeroom- the UPS guy told me he likes having an easy Friday. I think me and my boxes put him in a bad mood.

I called my friend Kim who has a new antique store, Verdigris, at 10th and Classen (where the old Army Surplus was located) and had her hunting for tables and shelves for all these goodies. Like a great friend she came through with some jems.

Just in case you get bored this weekend...There is not an empty table in the backroom. Ever flat space is covered with new goodies. I'm pooped from entering and arranging so they say a picture - or two- is worth a thousand words so here it is...

This is Really Not Nice

I'm fully aware this will not be a nice post but I apologize - yes I'm truly sorry. Here are some sneak peeks of the new My Mind's Eye Lost & Found 2. It is the prettiest paper I have ever seen, even prettier than the first Lost &Found.

I think one of the things I love most about this collection are the interesting color combinations- lime and orange, mellow mustardy yellow, fuschia pink always great for girls and turquiose and brown.

The collection was set out about 4ish yesterday and today at 5, I reordered the complete collection. It's a hit! Don't worry we still have plenty but I don't think it will last through the weekend. Never fear though, more is on the way.

Another gem is a new fabulous company Authentique Papers. I think we have 6 or 7 lines and I love them all. Beautiful papers, fun letter stickers and very reasonable embellishments.

The best Halloween line I have seen to date. I bet I will be making a reorder call soon.

Also in the back is a Webster's Pages box that hasn't even been opened yet.Pictures coming soon.

But here is the hitch- actually the not so nice part. The Paper Crown will be CLOSED tomorrow August 17th. I'm so sorry, I know that was quite a tease. I will be driving down to Waco to set my daughter up in her first apartment. I know the timing is not great- obviously Baylor didn't consult my shipping schedule. The store will be open, however, rest of the week and I know the goodies are going to keep on coming. So have sweet dreams girls and know that they will come true- on Thursday!

This fun class is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 16th from 5:30-8:30 and the cost is $35.00. There are just a few openings left and I have had several calls this morning so it will be a race to see who gets these class spots. Another class opportunity this week is Ann-Denise's festive pin cushion. Class with Ann- Denise is always fun and full of the most amazing treasures. We just got in the class sample this weekend and I can tell you, the pictures definitely don't do it justice. You need to stop by the store to appreciate all the many details in this project. This pin cushion class will be held this Saturday, August 20th from 11-3. Cost is $70.00 and includes all of your supplies.

It's hard to believe that a little over a week ago I was wearing a sweater or sweat shirt every day. They were complaining in Breckenridge that it was hot- at 85. Seriously are they kidding! The rain and overcast skies were a nice treat yesterday; wish they would have stayed a little bit longer.

Last week was a fun week at Paper Crown. We had our final week of kid's camp and this was a very creative, talented and Justin Bieber lovin' group. We did a mixed media cityscape or neighborhood, sculpting, journaling and this fun circle tree.

Katie liked this painting so much she has requested a large one for her bedroom in her apartment. I can't believe my baby is old enough to live in an apartment with 5 girlfriends- oh the chatter!

I'm enjoying the quiet at the store because I know the flood of boxes will be coming very soon. Many of the new lines had a shipment date of August 15th which is just around the corner. In preparation for all the new goodies, we will be having a 40% off storewide sale this Friday, August 12th and Saturday, August 13th .

Sale is for two days only and no other discounts or coupons are eligible. Come by this weekend and stock up while helping to make room for all the new goodies. This sale only happens twice a year so don't miss out!

Don't regret not signing up for Donna's Copic marker class this Saturday, August 6 from 1-4 pm. Donna will share her expertise on why this markers are artists' favorite, how to use and the different effects and how to maintain and care for your markers. As you can see it has been very active at Paper Crown this week. We had our July Kids Camp on Mon.- Thurs. with lots of creating, laughing, snacking and even a little dancing- at least in the afternoon session.

We created a mixed media "Home Sweet Home " canvas, sculpted cupcakes that rivaled Sprinkles, recreated in pastels Kandinsky's circles and possibly their favorites- shrinky dinks and frozen chocolate covered bananas.

We assemble 12 circles to create a colorful modern piece. My favorite but not the kiddos; it's a lot of coloring. I promised them all the work would be worth it when completed; mom & dad are going to love it!

The morning chickies were hard workers and also completed these poppy paintings- Way to go girls!

In the afternoon we were a little more mischievous and even got kinda crazy with the paint. Bo decided I needed a moustache, it made me look more like an artist.

I'm so proud of all these kiddos- it was a fun week

As fun as last week, it did leave me wanting a little break so I'm off next week on holiday. Cheri and Ms. Emily, Katie's buddy since middle school and fellow Baylor Bear, will be holding down the fort with some modified hours. As most of you know it's basically a one man shop and on occasion we need to deviate from our set schedule. I hope you understand and I apologize for any inconvenience it might cause.

Not much time today. We have Kids Camp today at 2 but I wanted you to see some of the beautiful new ribbons that just came in from Renaissance Ribbon. Renaissance is the cream of the crop- I could literally spent thousands of dollars on their website. We also got in the cutest cake ribbon but alas the picture was much too dark, guess you will have to come in to see it yourself.

Kids Camp this week, Monday-Thursday, 2-5pm . It is a blast and I love being around all these creative little people. If you missed this week we will have one more session of Kids Camp August 1-4, 2-5pm and it's not too late to sign up;however, there are only a few spaces left.

KC Willis is doing a second class on Monday, September 26th. More on this later, but if you can not wait see her website, www.studioretreats.ning.

No Paper Crown is not tweeting. Honestly, I can't post on the blog everyday and I really don't do anything very exciting. We are ,however, tweeting over Medeah's mixed media class THIS Thursday, July 14th at 6:00pm. Cost is $45.00. We still have a few openings so if you are in need of a crafting fix- it has been a very dry summer- call the store at 848-2389 to reserve your spot.

Also on the horizon is Donna's Copic Marker class on Saturday August 6th from 1-4. Cost is $45.00. This is a technique class but a must for all of you wanting to take your art to the next level. Donna will show/ explain why these are the preferred tools for most artists and their many uses. I guarantee you will be glad you learned this skill- it will add depth to your art. Call Paper Crown, 848-2389 to reserve your class spot.

I spoke to KC yesterday and there are only a few more openings in her mixed media collage retreat on Saturday, September 24th from 10-4. KC is a very accomplished mixed media artist who does the most amazing things with vintage photos, fabric and paper. Each is truly a piece of art (her art is on display at a Santa Fe gallery) and we are so lucky to have her in the shop. Cost for class is $125 and registration is done on KC's website www.studioretreats.com. You will have to type this in- I haven't mastered adding links yet- sorry. KC also mentioned the possibility of an additional class on Monday, September 26th. Great idea for all you lake girls who have to miss Saturday's class. If this interests you, let me know and hopefully we can make a second class happen.

She's Back!

We are so very excited to have an old friend back at Paper Crown! Donna Layton who has taught some of the most amazing classes, is feeling better and is coming back to teach. Donna will start off with a COPIC marker class on Saturday, August 6 from 1-4. If you have taken from Donna in the past, you know how very knowledgable she is and in this class, Donna will share her wealth of knowledge on Copic markers. She will explain why you should use them, how to use them, and how to care for them. This will be a technique class; however, everyone will recieve one of Donna's original doodle coloring sheets to create as you choose.

We have had Copic markers in the store for a while but just never knew how very fun and versitale they can be. Join Donna on the 6th to learn a new skill and find out for yourself why we are so very thrilled to have Donna back. Call the store at 848-2389 to enroll in this class.

Here is a quick peek at some of the new goodies that arrived this week from Prima, Echo Park, Art Parts and Unity Stamps. It's all in the backroom and it's much cooler there than in the front. This camper was the only one to use dark colors- it was absolutely beautiful and I love her uniqueness of vision!

If you happened to drop by Paper Crown at the end of the last week, you know it was a hub of activity. We had 16 very talented and so very well behaved kiddos for our mini Kid's Camp. We had a great time coloring our paint aprons, creating an amazing mixed media canvas, rolling paper to make the cutest frame, creating some shrinky dinks- well not so much- I forgot those darn things have to dry forever, black smudges shrink just as well as beautifully colored stamps just not so pretty, and eating frozen chocolate covered bananas!

Love, love, love this bug! She also was her own person and did her flowers in pastels. She wants to come help once a week so she will be all trained by the time she is a teenager.
I hope I can be so lucky!

Winner of the best paint apron- told her she needed to have her mom iron her apron before she washes it. Her response was she would tell her dad, he is the one that does all the ironing- man how did you get so lucky Amy!

Another beautiful painting and a quick shot of the frame- so easy but so cute! She is not only an artist but also quite the gymnast.

This is "Pink Ellie." She got that nickname because everything was PINK! As you can guess her frame was also in all shades of pink and fit her to a tee. She and her friend were the youngest campers but you definitely could not tell from their paintings. Both of their roses were amazing- I wish we all could have their artistic sense of freedom and confidence.

These two finished up today and did an excellent job. It was fun having them at the store this morning and being able to spend a little one on one.

More pictures later, I have a few campers that are on vacation and haven't picked up their art yet. It was fun for everyone and I even got a little help from my big kiddos- the little girls loved Katie, she looks like Barbie. Katie actually came to camp the first day dressed in a beautiful WHITE max dress. Katie bug was dressed for the runway not camp with 16 kiddos armed with loaded paintbrushes. After surveying the scene for about 10 mins she took me up on the apron offer; however, it didn't coordinate with her ensemble : ( While Katie had the little girls entertained, Payne, my very handsome 16 yr old son, had the older girls whispering. It was a win win for everyone.

If you missed June's mini Kid's Camp we are having a 4 day camp in June and July with different projects for each session. Cost is $200 and includes four days of creating. Dates and times are:

We are so very lucky to have such a talented and widely respected artist at our store. KC is an amazing mixed media artist and will share all her techniques and tricks on how to combine aged photos, fabric and paper to create a mutli-layered masterpiece. For weeks Katie has been telling me to get new beaded bracelets. Funny at 19 she still believes, actually feels even more passionately, that I have a grove of money trees in the backyard (do I sound like my parents or what). Today her wish came true and 400 new bright summery bracelets arrived at the store. They are beautiful and look like a delicious bowl of Neapolitan ice cream! yum yum! Come get them while the picking is still good. The bracelets from Nepal would make a fun little gift to stick in a care package from home.

Also arriving today, another new Basic Grey line, Out of Print. Very fun and almost every sheet has some type of newsprint. Forecast for tomorrow is "sweating hot" as Em said so swing by the store to cool off and take a gander at all the new pretties! If you are from out of town don't worry, we would be happy to ship anything you see on the blog just give us a buzz. Stay cool!

A True Romantic

What a hot and oh so slow day. On more than one occasion today I have wondered what the heck am I doing here. Retail is pretty slow in the summer- some days very slow- today was one of those days but...
in walked a new friend and I was glad I was here.

I can't tell you much about this new friend; he is currently involved in a top secret mission and I'm glad to say Paper Crown is playing an oh so small part in something HUGE! This young male has been in a couple of times over the past few weeks buying paper, stickers and ribbon- basically girl stuff. When we get guys in here they are usually lost, buying a gift certificate or under the age of 8 and forced to come with mom. This fellow was none of the above. My curiosity got the better of me and I finally asked what he was working on. " A scrapbook for my girlfriend ," he replied with a twinkle. " It has pictures of both of us when we were young and then pictures since we have been dating and a few blank pages to be filled later." I thought I knew what those blank pages were for but of course I had to ask to make sure. Our mystery man is proposing on about page 20 and the last few pages are for the celebration following the question popping and the wedding.

It was just too sweet. We have been watching this guy circle the store for weeks picking out the perfect paper for the big day. Today was just a few last minute items to perfect his book. He then told me how he was going to give her the book- after probably the longest meal he has ever had and a stroll to a private gazebo. This boy has been planning a lot- I mean really a lot! You should have seen his grin- big as Dallas!

He promised to call next week to tell me how it went and to bring by the book- fat chance, his fiance isn't going to let go of that book- ever! What a great job I have!

Kids Camp

Finally I have nailed down some dates for Paper Crown's Kid's Camp. For the past 2, or has it actually been 3 summers we have offered a 4 day Kids Camp where we create and have a great time. No sense in limiting the fun to just adults!

We will have a mini 2 day camp Thurs., June 29th & Fri., June 30th from 1:30- 4:30. Cost of mini camp is $75. All of your supplies are included and a snack will be provided.

We will then be offering a 4 day Kids Camp in July and August. Each month there will be a morning session and an afternoon session. The projects for the morning and afternoon will be the same- basically it gives you a choice if your kiddo wants to sleep in or would rather hit the pool in the heat of the day. However the projects for the July camp will differ from those for the August camp. The cost of the 4 day camp is $200 and includes all supplies and snacks.

August Kids Camp- 8/1-8/4 session 3 9:30-12:30

The projects we do for each session will be dictated by our class make up- typically the boys aren't so into flowers and jewelry making but I guarantee you and your child will love it! We do projects from several medias so there is a variety to the projects to suit each kiddos likes. In the mini camp we will create one large project and then a smaller project. Typically in the four day camp we do 2 large projects and a smaller one. Usually projects will be taken home on the last day of camp but on occasion then need some extra drying time or a little tweaking.

Hopefully one of these dates will work with your kiddo- we have a great time and they are very popular. If these dates don't work don't despair, we hold monthly Kid's Camps on Sunday afternoons during the school year!

Crepe Paper 101

Come learn from the master (really she is known as the crepe paper queen in the art circles!) In this workshop you will learn all sorts of tricks of the trade and all the special techniques associated with crepe paper. This will be an excellent technique class and one that will benefit so many of your projects.

As many of you know Ann-Denise drives up from Ft. Worth to teach and therefore like to make the most of her trip. She will be teaching a second 4th of July class on Saturday but I don't know it will be. we have both had crazy schedules these past few weeks and she is currently at Paper Cowgirl Art Event in TX. I will call her first thing Monday morning to get the skinny on this patriotic class- I'll keep you posted.

Kandinsky Paper Quilt

I'm off this weekend so the sample will be at the store on Monday but think of this as famous Russian artist creates a quilt out of paper. I have always loved Kandinsky's circle painting because of the vibrant colors and simplicity. When we got in the Basic Grey Hello Luscious line I decided to combine the two to create my own work of art. This will be an easy class where we are basically "piecing" together our picture with paper. It looks wonderful in my head- let's hope it looks just as good in real life. Sample will be at the store on Monday June 13th.

O.K. girls this is Jackie's last class before her summer vacation so if you think you will be needing a little fix to get you through til mid/ late August you better act fast. This project features one of Catherine Moore's new mermaid stamps and will get you in the mood for the beach.

Medeah is quickly becoming our resident expert on mixed media canvases. This sweet bird will not only be fun to make but think of all the techniques and tips you will learn. If you haven't taken a class from Medeah you are missing out.

This large canvas will feature an urn full of the luscious paper flowers. I have done this project before it bright hues but after my trip to "Gilded Life, "I'm inspired to try the project in more neutral tones. This would be a great project to use all those bits and pieces of vintage jewelry. Sample will be at the store soon.

Floral Shadowbox

This sweet shadow box is a great way to celebrate the wonderful flowers that come with summer as opposed to those dog days of summer that will more than likely be occurring while this class in taking place. This project is a little Tim Holtz , a little 7 Gypsies and a whole lot of cute.

Mix & Mingles

It was so much fun last year we decided to bring this summer tradition back. During the summer months we will once again be having mix & mingles. The first mix & mingle is Tuesday, June 28th from 6-8. Come by the store during mix & mingle to make a fun free project, catch up with friends, grab a delicious snack and shop for 2 hours with a 20% discount. I can't think of anything better to do on a Tuesday night. Mark your calendars you won't want to miss!

Holy Guacamole

While I would love to share with you about my absolutely fabulous weekend at the Gilded Life event, I must instead share with you ALL the wonderful treats that came in while I was gone. I honestly don't think we have ever gotten so much in such a short time. So while I would love to daydream all afternoon about my "gilded life" at the Church- and yes for one entire evening I fantasized about buying the church and moving the store there- unfortunately the summer electric bill popped that dream in a hurry - I instead need to move and scrunch everything to make room for all the new. Y'all could help a ton by coming in and helping me clear off some space- I honestly don't think I have enough room. I would however have plenty of room at the church- can't go there.

Anyway quickly here is a sneak peek of what has come in since last Thursday-

First to arrive was Pink Paislee's Butterfly Garden and Daily Junque. Beautiful papers and such unique embellishments. My favorite is the chalkboard stickers.

Next came Basic Grey's Sweet Threads and Fort Lauderdale. I love the Sweet Threads and the Fort Lauderdale just screams the beach- a great reason to plan a beach vacation- you already have the paper!

Last but certainly not least and being unpacked and input while I type- Webster's Pages. I think we have 4 new lines with the best embellishments ever. I know you all are going to have to have at least one package of birds.

I'm counting on you to help a sister out- I need some room and it's much cooler at the store than the pool. You will love it I promise! I promise to share my Gilded Life experience soon- it was amazing!
