Recap of This Week's Classes

Last week just flew by so I'm trying to get a head start on this coming week. We have a full line up of amazing classes this week and each one has a couple of openings left. If you are needing some new Valentine's decorations or want to impress your friends with your architectural talent then this week is for you.

The week's classes start out this Tuesday, Feb. 5th  with Bobbie's Message in a Bottle AND You've Got Mail Banner. Yes you read correctly, two Valentine's projects for the price of one. Class cost for both projects is just $35.00. This is a great deal and the perfect way to get your feet wet if you have been wanting to try a class at Paper Crown.

Our second class of the week is Thurs., Feb. 7th , Jackie's Valentine Crown. I think there is only ONE spot left so this will be a race to the phone. This is also perfect if you are coming in town for Affair of the heart, after a day of shopping come relax and make your own crown. I guarantee it will be just as cute- if not more - than any you will see during the day.

I think it's quite perfect that Jackie is teaching a Valentine crown class since that is how I stumbled upon Jackie. About 6 years ago when I changed the name of the store from " 7 Minutes Later" to "Paper Crown" I had a crown contest and Jackie was the winner. I happened to ask if she would be interested in teaching and the rest is a long, creative, and calorie ridden history!   Class begins at 5:30 and is $45.00 which includes all supplies.

We are finishing off the week with a Oh la la- Bobbie's Eiffel Tower Class. It is pretty amazing and reminds me of all the models my dad and I put together growing up - only so much prettier. This class is also a great pick for those of you in town for Affair of the Heart. This is a great way to spend a relaxing Saturday morning before the shopping begins. Class is $45.00 and includes all supplies. Eiffel Tower will begin at 11 and finish up around 2. Trust me the photograph does not do this justice.

To sign up for any or all three classes this week, simply call Paper Crown at 405 848-2389 with your credit card to secure your seat.

As an added bonus, all class participants will receive 15% off their total purchase the day of class. The discount will come in handy, all the new items from CHA began arriving the end of last week. The first across the finish line was Prima, followed by Authentique, Glitz and I have a hunch, My Mind's Eye will be here this week . That being said, I am hurrying to get it all in the computer but with the volume that came on Friday, it will take a bit- I appreciate your patience. On the bright side, there will be something new out very day this week!

Easter Parade Contest

It has been awhile since we have had a contest so I thought it might be a fun way to get a jump start on spring and a great way to highlight all of the Character Construction paper dolls we all love so much.

For the month of February through March 15th, we will be having our Easter Parade contest. It's pretty simple, just create a paper doll using your favorite Character Construction stamp decked in all of his or her Easter finery.

All paper dolls need to be turned into Paper Crown by 5 pm on March 15th so we can begin our "Easter parade." The paper dolls will be on display at the store and web until Friday, March 29th when a winner will be selected by a very special guest judge. The top three dolls will each win a Paper Crown gift certificate.

I know the wheels are turning. We still have a good selection of the new TimeKeeper's Garden stamps along with many of our older favorites.

Have a great weekend and get ready - the new CHA products are beginning to arrive- oh my!

TimeKeeper's Garden has Arrived!

All 16 of the new Character Construction stamps in Catherine's new collection, " TimeKeeper's Garden" are at the store and ready for purchase. I have moved them all to the tables in the back- I thought it might get a little crowded.

They are Wow! Sorry, we will not be able to hold any stamps at this time.

Art with a Heart

Last Sunday, I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon with an amazing group of volunteers, an energetic group of sisters and the most cheerful and brave group of kiddos.

Miss Kay, a Paper Crown regular and volunteer extraordinaire at Children's Hospital, asked if I would help a patient create a piece of art for the Art for Heart auction put on by the volunteers and Tridelt to benefit Children's Hospital. You all know how I love kid's camp ( I can bluff those lil' bits much easier than adults) and many moons ago I was initiated as a Tri Delt so my response was heck yeah! It is definitely one of those times, like most of my time with kiddos, that I walk away knowing that there is no way they could have gotten near as much from that experience as I did.

Kay set me up with one of her favorite little nuggets, that's a "Katie Winterism" and she has been using it a lot referring to her 1st K class- it has kinda grown on me, Kameron. I knew if Kay loved her she had to be special and I was right. Kameron was the sweetest little bug and oh so fashionable in her Sunday best. She gets it from her mom who was the gentlest, most positive and hard working momma.

Kameron was excited to be able to walk down the red carpet in a tiara and cape so we decided a crown would be the perfect piece of art for us both. We did a little pasting, cutting, and glittering to create her masterpiece.

During our time together I learned that Miss Kameron is celebrating her 8th birthday this week so we had to break for a birthday song.

Earlier this fall I helped another equally adorable artist with her piece for the show.

So many kiddos, so many different illnesses but they all were just kids and wanted to play, be loved and just be a kiddo. These kiddos have a special spirit  that seem to make all of us on the outside look "sick" as they gently pull back the layers to reveal what is really important.

Sadly these aren't the only two kiddos I have known that have called the clinic at Children's Hospital, home. Our entire school was blessed several years ago by Fletcher. Fletcher was in Payne's grade and came to mean and teach his classmates so very much. Hell, Fletcher taught the parents, teachers, and principal. Two weekends ago I was cleaning out old yearbook pictures from elementary school and came across the pages we did on Fletcher. Those went in the box with the Winter family pictures. Tonight I watched a video assignment Payne had to do of his life and there was a picture of Fletcher. Such a very wise soul beyond his years and such a sphere of influence.

Art with a Heart auction is February 23rd and although I'm not positive, I bet they would love anyone to attend. I can't think of a better way to celebrate February, the month of love. I guarantee being around these kiddos will fill your heart and bless you beyond measure.

Kay, Arlene and all of the volunteers - you are my superhero, rock star and glitter princess all rolled in one. Some day I want to be you Miss Kay!

If you can't make the auction, I still have a few calendars the kiddos created at the store.
