Queen For a Day

Every once in a while I get to do something really neat just because I have the store- and some awfully special friends! Two weeks ago in the midst of all my hustle and bustle and stuff that seemed so very important, I had the privilege of taking a break and getting my priorities back on track.

Many of you know Kay, she has been a vendor and helper at Glitter Market, a favorite customer, an artistic student but probably best know as volunteer extraordinaire! Someday I want to be Kay but I know I'm not as selfless- gotta work on that.

Through Kay's volunteer work at Children's Hospital she met Michaela. Michaela is the sweetest most appreciative 12 yr old on the planet and she lives in Zimbabwe, a very long ways from the prairies of OK. When Michaela was 8 she was diagnosed with Scoliosis and 18 months ago, it had gotten quite severe and she desperately need an operation. Unfortunately, there wasn't a surgeon on her entire continent that was qualified to do the operation.

However, her dad is a professional guide and hunter in Zimbabwe and had lead an OKC doctor several times over the past few years. Oklahomans' generosity prevailed and on Dec. 31st, Michaela, her parents and 16 yr old brother came to OK for her operation. After 3 operations Michaela is doing great and before she returned to Africa last week, she was Queen for a day.

What a great day for a 12 year old and her family- limo, hairdo, manicure, visit to a bank vault, a radio spot, meeting with Ms. Oklahoma and a tour of OU stadium with Coach Stoops. Michaela also made a stop at Paper Crown for some scrap booking.

I asked her brother, Jordan, if he was excited to get home. I know any time Emory is away from his posse of buds, it is like torture to him. Jordan said not really, he said they only have electricity for a couple of days a week and water for a couple of hours a day. I might have that mixed up but you get the point. Wow, my busy schedule, to do list and computer issues are really absolutely nothing.

I think God blessed me with that event first, to meet an amazing young lady and secondly, as a little reality check. I so appreciate that he loves me enough to rein me in when I'm getting out of whack. Thanks Jackie and Kay for the opportunity. Have a great week and maybe we all need to stop and count our blessings when everything seems to be going too fast- never know what might happen!

A Pair of Guest Bloggers

Lately we have all been busy getting ready for the Paper Crown Glittered Retreat- there has been a lot of planning, creating, calling, painting, papering, sewing, cleaning, tasting and brainstorming. In the midst of all this " inging" I have done very little blogging. The days just keep getting away from me and my mind is so scattered right now I'm pretty sure anything I came up with would look/read the same. Therefore, I asked Lisa Stanton and Lisa Nix, Paper Crown girls and swap coordinators, to be guest bloggers today and tell us a little about themselves and their swaps for the retreats.

Lisa Stanton
Lisa is one of our favorite Paper Crown girls and she frequently drives in from Tulsa to take classes or say hello. In addition to being very creative and always able to tell us about the newest and greatest art retreat, Lisa has worked as a nurse, attorney and in real estate. She is truly one of the nicest people and we are glad she will be heading up the matchbox swap for the Glittered Retreat.
The theme of the swap is Spring- thank goodness it is officially here today-  or whatever inspires you!
If you are needing a little inspiration, here are some favorites Lisa pull off the internet to get  your head a swirling.
We can't wait to see what you all come up with but we know it will be fabulous. I have a couple of mini matchboxes at the store or you can use a real large matchbox.
Lisa Nix
It has been just FUN getting to know Lisa over the past few years! She always brings laughter and a few stories to a class and that is what we love; her willingness to share with others. Lisa describes herself as...
I guess what I would say is I am a child of God, a mother of a 12 year old (Lord give me strength), a Mortgage Lender by day and a crafter and I have a mad passion for reading.  I truly like to work with anything crafty from painting and decorating, crocheting, knitting, but my passion would be working with paper and making mini albums and media media arts.  I love the Paper Crown and the awesome teachers, but most important all the wonderful ladies that I have met.  I just look forward to coming and seeing everyone and of course making new things that I cannot bare to give up.  I need a bigger home!!!

Lisa's theme for the cone swap is Ringing in Spring at Paper Crown! How very appropriate for today!
As usual, Lisa is always done days or weeks before a deadline so here is a photo of her cone for the swap.
We have various sized cones at the store or you can create your own. I just know you are not going to want to miss out on these retreat swaps!
Thanks Lisas, the swaps are in good and creative hands!
Back to work- just in flowers, new Doodlebug, Maya Road

Announcing the Retreat Swaps

I can't wait to see what all you creative girls do with a cone and a matchbox. I know it will be amazing! For all of you registered for the Paper Crown Glittered Retreat, we will have two swaps if you choose to participate. These are a great way to great those creative juices flowing and a fun way to meet some of your fellow artists.

The first swap is headed up by Lisa Nix and it will be a cone swap. I have various cones at the store or you can make your own. It should be a unique swap and those that know Lisa, she will make it FUN!

The second swap is headed up by another Lisa, Lisa Stanton.  Lisa has chosen a miniature shadow box for this swap. You have LOTS of options- the Graphic 45 mini shadowbox, a large matchbox, or I have the new Tim Holtz matchbox die and you are welcome to use. Oh the possibilities!

By no means are you required to do a swap but it will be fun- I promise. This comes from the girl who never does them at retreats and ALWAYS wishes I had.

If you could do me a favor and let me know if you will be participating in either or both swaps, I will pass your email on to the Lisas. Also need your tshirt and email please.

Retreat is approaching quickly! It will be a special weekend I guarantee!
Retreat registration closes this Saturday, March 15th.
