Off to Camp- kinda

I have been working on this lately and it has got me thinking about summer camp. Who doesn't love camp- it's an adventure,it's fun, it's a little scarey, it's something new, it broadens your friend base, it makes you never want to go home and it makes you more fully appreciate home.

It has been a busy spring at Paper Crown, so I decided to go to summer camp- of sorts- for the next couple of weeks. Relax, reflect on the spring, be grateful for what we accomplished and plan for the summer and fall.

Our usual quiet summer is full of artist weekends, soirĂ©es, classes and a contest- I want the window full of birds. The store will be operating as usual- with the exception of today.

Social media is taking a break for a couple of weeks-I promise I will return with a few surprises and I will write home!

I Can't Believe He Beat Us!

I won't deny it. I would love for the store, a Paper Crown teacher, class or event to be featured in a Somerset publication. Considering what we sell, what we love and what we teach, it would pretty sweet. So I guess the latest edition of Sew Somerset has myself, Jackie and Bobbie laughing and saying " are you kidding! "

None of us made Somerset but Austin, my W TX good ol boy did! And he is so enjoying rubbing it in, once he figured out what he actually  was in- such a colossal waste.

The newest shipment of Somerset magazines arrived Friday and in it was the newest Sew Somerset with a lovely feature on Colette and her beautiful kites which were inspired by some she had seen at Glitter Market.   Colette was so very sweet to acknowledge her inspiration, Paper Crown and the creator of all of those frames, Austin.

So actually the store was mentioned and it's probably a good thing Austin got first mention- I probably would have, as my mom said, "acted a fool." Thank you Colette for the mention, you are the best! As you can imagine, the guys at Austin's office got a kick out of it : )

For all of you Duck Dynasty fans!

This weekend in addition to Austin's artistic premiere, Katie graduated from Baylor. We are so very proud of her and can't wait to see what is in store for the next chapter of her life. It's off to Frisco and her first classroom of second graders. We were looking at room ideas last night, so much fun!

Mom and Austin are a little sore. Who would have thought two girls could  acquire so much over 4 years. And to think we thought a trailer would be fine!

Summer Special -round 3, Debby Schuh

I am so pleased to announce a very special treat for the month of July. For those of you who missed it last year, I know you were disappointed. The oh so talented and very well traveled Debby Schuh will be back the weekend of July 25th & 26th to teach three classes.

For those of you who haven't met Debby, she is from New York and currently travels around the country- and globe- teaching the most amazing mini book classes. I hate to even use the word " mini" because there is nothing small about Debby's classes. Debby is so very generous with her products; I guarantee you could take what is left over from a Debby class and create a second album. You definitely get a BIG bang for your buck. You can learn more about Debby, her family, travels and teachings at her blog http://debbyschuh.typepad.com/

Debby will be sending out an email to her students in this area of the country so I would not delay in signing up. If you happen to have vacation plans that weekend, kits will be available and come with detailed instructions. So many of our classes at Paper Crown are paper arts or mixed media, not true scrap booking classes, therefore we are thrilled to have her share her tricks and secrets. These classes are perfect for our die hard scrapbookers and will turn you paper arts girls to a new love.

Look at ALL the pages and embellishments

 #big ideas#smallbooks album class
designed & taught by Debby Schuh

Friday, July 25th
6-9
$65

Using the new We R MemoryKeepers 4x4” Instagram album, Debby will guide you in making an encyclopedia of ideas for expanding the room for photos in the small books that are so popular now. The folds and cuts and extensions and add-ins and more will supply a wealth of ideas that can be adapted for any of your paper-crafting projects.
The darling new Styleboard collection by Maggie Holmes from Crate Paper will fill our books with nostalgic charm and be the foundation for the sweet little pages that we’ll make for our favorite photos. The page protectors that come in your album will be perfect for 4x4” or 2x2” Instagram photos or you can crop your photos to fit the pages. We’ll add ribbons and tags and pockets and other little embellishments to make our books the cutest things ever!

Student supply list: Please bring the following items to class… 12” paper trimmer, pencil, ruler, scoring tool, scissors, strong tape adhesive (1/8” and ½”, if possible), regular tape runner adhesive, Crop a Dile (or 1/16” and 1/4” We R MemoryKeepers Power Punches, Distress Ink (I use Vintage Photo Distress Ink by Ranger), ink blending tool, non-stick craft mat, sanding tool, stapler or Tiny Attacher, corner rounder punch, scallop-edge scissors, foam squares. Optional: Tim Holtz two hole punch.

Who remembers these books? I do!

Little Golden Seashore Album
designed & taught by Debby Schuh

Sat., July 26th
10-1
$60

Some of my happiest memories are of days spent at the seashore – whether it’s in Florida or Texas or California or somewhere else across the world – most of us have pictures and memorabilia from these special times that need a home.
In this class we will be making a darling album using the classic Little Golden book, “A Day at the Seashore” as the foundation of our project. We’ll take the book apart and then refashion it with the beautiful new collection “By the Sea” from Graphic 45, and mix it with goodies from American Crafts, October Afternoon, 7gypsies, and more, along with gorgeous ribbon from May Arts. We’ll be making interactive pages with fold-outs and pockets and page protectors and all the techniques that Debby is known for – you’ll love the possibilities that this book presents to include lots and lots of photos and techniques that you can apply to your other paper crafts projects.

This album will feature the brand new October Afternoon and Crate Paper lines. Literally right of the press

StoryTeller Book
designed & taught by Debby Schuh

Sat., July 26th
2:30-5:30
$65

Don’t you love it when someone says, “Tell me about the time…” - who doesn’t love a good story! You have stories that only you can tell, and this album is just the place to write those stories down. Just like a good book that you would get from the library to read over and over again, your StoryTeller book will be a treasure-trove of your “tell me about” stories.
Using the whimsical new Public Library collection from October Afternoon mixed with the nostalgic new Open Road collection from American Crafts, we will make a storybook filled with lots of places to tuck your stories and include your photos. The new Heidi Swapp 8” x 6” binder album with three different styles of horizontal page projectors will be the base of our book  - we will alter some of them and make your book an interactive scrapbook for writing, photos, and mementos.
You’ll have several papers to choose from for your book cover and, of course, can use your book for anything you want – it would make a great place to record your favorite books or to use as a school album or even a travel album. Your kit includes thirteen sheets of 12x12 papers, 4 stickers sheets, stitched borders, Miscellany die cuts and buttons and ribbons and the album – it’s huge!

Student supply list: Please bring the following items to class… 12” paper trimmer, pencil, ruler, scoring tool, scissors, strong tape adhesive (1/8” and ½”, if possible), regular tape runner adhesive, foam adhesive, Crop a Dile (or 1/4” We R MemoryKeepers Power Punch), Distress Ink (I use Vintage Photo Distress Ink by Ranger), ink blending tool, non-stick craft mat, sanding tool, stapler or Tiny Attacher, corner rounder punch. Optional: Tim Holtz two hole punch and powder to use make stickers “unsticky”.

Summer Special- round 2, a birdie contest

Miss Girdie Needs a Birdie!

As most of you know, Girdie is Paper Crown's creative mascot and she resides in our front window beckoning all artistic souls to our creative haven. Every couple of months Jackie does her magic and Girdie takes on a whole new appearance. One of my favorites was the " birdie Girdie" created for our first Glitter Retreat. I just couldn't do a costume change quite yet so I decided for most of the summer, we are going to embellish Girdie and have a fun contest at the same time.

So from now until Sat., Aug. 9th help us create a flock of welcoming chirpers to hang around Girdie. Remember a couple of summer's ago when the window was framed in postcards- that is the look we are going for. For this summer contest, we are asking you to create a bird that can be hung in the window. On the day you turn in your bird you will get 15% off your total purchase and on the final day of the contest, we will select a queen bird who will win a $50 gift certificate to Paper Crown!

Ladies get those creative juices going and lets surround Girdie with the most stunning flock.

For those Paper Crown  followers from out of town, this contest is perfect for you. Just put your birdie in an envelope and send to:
Miss Girdie

Tomorrow will be Summer Treat - round 3.
The perfect treat for the hot month of July. A hint- old friend, way more than you expect, a breeze from the north, instagram, trip to the beach and a good story.

Jackie wanted me to let you know that she is having computer issues- UGH!
Please bear with her as they get it fixed and Good Grief Girdie will be back as soon as possible.
