Paper Crown Artful Altered Book Swap

We have talked about it for months and have decided what better way to start off 2013 in an artful, fun way than an altered book swap.

The concept is pretty simple, you take a discarded hardback book like this.... (don't bring your favorite novel because it will be a little difficult to read by December of 2013.)

We will meet each month at Paper Crown on the last Wednesday of the month from 6-8 to work on our books, share techniques, have some laughs and of course some yummy treats. At the end of the evening we will swap books and then have the following month to complete a double page spread in our friend's book. The next month we will return on the last Wed. with our friend's book and begin the process all over again.  The spread might look something like this...

To begin with, we will have a theme such as a color, technique or holiday to get your creative juices flowing. This summer we can decide whether we want to stick with a theme or fly solo. There is no right or wrong just a collection of creative inspirations from some of the most talented artists in the country (the more I see from the "creative hubs," I believe us Okies are just as talented if not more so, just more laid back or humble. Another great plus, it is free. Costs nothing except your time and commitment.

Which brings me to probably the most important piece to this altered book swap- you have to commit or simply be there. It is hard to swap books if half of them are MIA. We are all adults so I don't need to expand on this like it's a Winter family meeting-UGH! but you need to be there if at all possible. Something might come up once or maybe twice but a dinner invitation from a friend or just a night at home in your pjs won't cut it.

We will limit the number in our swap to probably 12-15. If this sounds like fun, and of course it does, check your calendar and give us a call to sign up. Sign up will be a first come, first serve basis.


At the meeting on the 1/30/13, we will get acquainted, sign up for the swap rotation, discuss how we want to handle snacks/dinner and learn a new technique. Don't forget your book.

I think this will be a great way to see every one's talent, be inspired, have fun and do what we all love- CREATE!

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

The old saying is true and for some unexplained reason, blogger will not let me upload photos to the blog. Ugh! I have tried shutting down the computer, deleting a ton of photos, trying the computer at the front, trying the computer at home, adding photos to picasa, googling it- I have tried it all and for the moment, blogger is winning.

I've been trying to upload photos of the classes so for now, please either refer to the Paper Crown website or Jackie's blog, goodgriefgirdie.typepad. Bobbie has 4 classes scheduled which I have not seen yet, but as soon as I do, they will be on the website as well as Bobbie's blog, mycreativelife diary. Ann-Denise also has a Valentine's class and we are currently working on a date but it too will be up soon and on Ann-Denise's blog, whim and fancy designs. Lots of Valentine sweets we just are having difficulty showing you- FRUSTRATING.

The classes are about half way full also if you are interested, I would not delay.

Now imagine a stack of paper almost as tall as me and a couple of tubs full of stickers, buttons, stamps and every imaginable embellishment. Well, that's what I discovered last week during inventory once I consolidated everything. Wow it's a lot of stuff and very good stuff just not all the latest stuff so here is my plan to get rid of it. Everyone loves paper for a dime but it is a mess and takes up all of the backroom. So I decided to feature a different manufacturer each month and for that month, all of that brands back stock of paper will be a dime a sheet and coordinating embellishments 60% off. These special sale items will be in the backroom on the wire racks and the table not used for classes. That manufacturer will be on sale for that month only and on the 1st, a new set of papers and embellishments will come out. A win win for everyone!

Last Day of Paper Crown 40% off Sale

Ladies let's end the year on a fiscal summit- instead of a cliff. Tomorrow Monday, December 31st is the last day of our Paper Crown 40% off sale. This is a great time to stock up on basics and get prepared for those crafting days to come. Who doesn't like crafting on a cold snowy day!

Everything in the store is at least 40% off, Christmas is 60% off and there is a backroom full of .10 a piece paper and 60% off embellishments. I will be putting new paper out in the backroom tomorrow morning.

This is my way of saying " Thank You" to all of my loyal friends and customers and also "thanks" to a few new ones. We had a car from Wichita come in Saturday to shop for the 1st time- Thanks ladies and gentleman for making the drive.

I must also admit the sale also benefits me- less items to count on Wed. & Thurs.
